Your car maintenance checklist for a steaming-hot summer
Summer heat is just around the corner. Time for ice creams by the pool and beach getaways! We know you can’t wait for the summer sunshine – but the question is, can your car? Get your vehicle summer-ready in with our car maintenance checklist.
Check the air conditioner
Before summer starts to heat things up, check to see if your air conditioner is working properly. Feel to see if the air is cool enough – if not, you may need to invest in some new refrigerant.
Pop the hood
Open up the hood of your vehicle and look around for any loose or cracked hoses. Make sure the rubber parts (like belts) aren’t damaged in any way.
Test the battery
The summer heat can affect the battery life of your vehicle. Before the temperature rises, stop by an auto repair shop to make sure your battery is working fine.
Check the tires
Your tire pressure can fluctuate overnight and is more likely to when it’s summertime. Over or under-inflated tires make your ride less fuel-efficient, and can cause them to wear out unevenly. So be sure to check them!
Monitor radiator temperature
While you have the hood up, be sure to check the radiator. It requires plenty of coolants, especially in the summer heat. Keep a close eye on your temperature gauge (on the dashboard) when the weather gets warmer – it will alert you if your car is running too hot.
Check the oil
Test the oil levels and top up if necessary. Engine oil lubricates the engine and reduces heat produced as a result of mechanical friction. So as you can imagine, topping up your oil is a very important item on your summertime car maintenance checklist.
